Latest News from the Croquet club -July 2011
"On Friday 1st July, Weston Croquet Club held their prestigious Daphne Holland Shield tournament, 24 players competing on a knock-out basis. The winner was the defending holder Lance Binning, overcoming Jill Begg in a hard fought final. (Sorry, no photo of this one).
On Saturday the Southeast League 'A' team travelled to Glastonbury to defeat 'Abbey' 11-9 to continue their unbeaten spell of matches. (My photo shows the Weston 'A' team and the Glastonbury team). On Wednesday 6th July Weston welcome 'Palace' Wells to their home ground at Bleadon."

"A successful weekend for the Weston-super-Mare croquet club saw the Golf Croquet South East League "A" team win 13½ to 6½ against Taunton Deane Croquet Club. (The photo shows this team). The Association "B" League team also beat Nailsea 6-1 to consolidate their position at the top of the league.
These two results show the growth in ability of the club since their move to Bleadon 3 years ago. A go-ahead club that is expanding in membership and skills still has room for new members, both experienced players and those new to the game of croquet."
"WESTON SUPER MARE CROQUET CLUB held an end-of-season Ladies Day last Saturday. This was a golf croquet handicap competition in which over 20 ladies from the club competed against each other. After a gruelling day and several close matches, the overall Ladies Champion was Christine Jones from Bleadon.

Weston-super-Mare Croquet Club, which is now playing at Bleadon has had some very good news from the BBC Radio Somerset. Due to the new development of their three large lawns and sheds, and its very attractive site in Bleadon, coupled with its large increase in membership, all of whom are thoroughly enjoying the pleasure of playing the game of croquet, the Club has been awarded the ‘Sports Club of the Year in Somerset’ for 2008. There was stiff competition for this award so we feel this is a great accolade for such a small Club and for the game of croquet as a whole.
The prize was awarded to the Club by an interview on the radio with its Chairman and all the Club members are thrilled with this recognition after such a short time playing in their new venue in Bleadon.
Play will begin again in April 2009 and anyone who may be interested in trying the game of croquet should contact David Martin on 01934 413013.
